YOU AND YOUR BABY: THE 1ST MONTH

The day you have been waiting for has arrived. You are safely home now with your newborn baby. Your 9 months of pregnancy are finally over. Now you begin the next phase of your baby’s life. You are a parent and you will have to forget about your immediate needs and focus on your baby. One of the things that most parents contend with is time. Your baby will want to come first and will demand it from you.

In the 1st week of getting adjusted your baby will essentially rule your life. You will be totally exhausted from all the attention your baby will demand. Although, some parents have said that their babies were little angels through this period. For the most part both the parent and baby reach an agreement by the end of the 1st month. It seems like both the parent and baby somehow know when they can both have nap. Or, the baby is comfortable playing while the parent attends to tasks around the house.

For the most part nobody teaches you how to be a parent. You are essentially born into this role.
At the end of the first month your baby should be able to lift his head briefly when on his/her tummy, react to a loud noise and focus on faces. Your baby should also be able to smile on cue.

It is a fact that all babies reach developmental milestones at a genetically set time. However, these differ with every baby. Your baby is no different. All new parents have all kinds of concerns and questions they need answered. No person, doctor, relative, book or article can explain everything about babies.

Make sure that you spend as much time as you possibly can with your baby in the 1st month. That month is so critical in the bonding process. To help your baby develop his/her mind you may want to try out some great Baby Einstein products offered on this website.
